It’s been a while…

It’s really been some time since I have posted and quite honestly it’s been a while since I have painted, I guess I have been feeling frustrated and perhaps defeated in my journey as an artist. I tried placing some of my work in a coop gallery but only lasted there 3 months – it wasn’t really my scene and so I opted not to display anymore work there. It seems that the art scene is really weird…you are either really young and hip and totally cutting edge – no boundaries or you are older, well seasoned, joining galleries to socialize with other like-minded of the same interest people or retired.  So with that being said, I don’t know where to go from here… I’m almost 50 in years (only in years – not in mind, body, and spirit) I do not consider myself as an older well-seasoned individual (still finding my style – I have a theory, when you think you got it down packed you are done for – we always have to be learning and growing as an artist and an individual and at the same note I am no a social butterfly – I love talking and interacting with individuals but don’t like the clicks in society and in the artist world. I am a punk at heart and don’t like conformism, what is in style is not in style for me – I like a little of everything but not much of one thing.  I love flowers, love painting them in explosive sizes but at the same time love a gothic gory drawing.  I’m annoyed by these capitalist galleries trying to make a buck from artist and how you need to apply to get accepted to pay to place your art on sale and pay on top of that commision once sold. I get it – the gallery has an overhead, they have bills to pay and they want artists that their work sells like hot cakes, all understood. So, where does that leave the artist that paints from inspiration, passion and doesn’t pump out paintings like it’s a printing factory and still needs to make a buck or two????

If anyone has any ideas for me or where to display my paintings, please let me know.  In the meantime, I need to finish this painting that has been on the easel for about 2 months. These flowers really keep happy inside and ease the crazed punk in me, lol.

  1. I totally understand and have been missing from blogging and creating. Slowly getting back into the swing – but tempering too. I love your large and fabulous floral paintings, hope that you continue to find inspiration in nature around you.

    1. Thank you for the positive re-enforcement. I love your work also and I was wondering where you have been, well, welcome back hopefully we will both continue creating and blogging. It is a joy to see your work, it also inspires me as you are always very creative.
